FAQ
Will the orthotic be heavy or uncomfortable for my dog to wear?
The materials selected for your dog’s brace are carefully chosen based on the dog’s size and weight to ensure a balance of comfort and durability. While some weight is necessary for the brace’s effectiveness, we strive to keep it proportional to your dog’s size. The braces feature orthopedic-grade foam liners and high-quality, soft straps that are gentle enough to be worn against human skin, ensuring comfort for most dogs. If your dog has specific skin sensitivities due to medications, allergies, or other health conditions, we collaborate closely with you and your vet to provide specialized interfaces that minimize any potential skin irritation.
How do I clean the orthotic?
- Cleaning is very simple, requiring no special products. Just use mild soap and warm water, rinse well and air dry.
- Do not use any polishing products such as Armour All as this can cause hair to stick to the brace.
What is the difference between an orthotic and a prosthetic?
An orthotic is a supportive device applied externally to a specific area of the body, enhancing stability and function.
a prosthetic replaces a missing body part, helping to restore the body’s functionality and appearance.
Both are tailored to meet individual needs for improved daily living.
Do you only make products for dogs?
While most of our products are designed for dogs, we are open to creating custom braces for other animals that can be handled and are willing to wear them. Our specialist, has experience working with a variety of animals including cats, alpacas, llamas, sheep, pigs, etc.
If you’re considering a brace for an animal other than a dog, please contact us to discuss how we can tailor a design to suit their unique physiology. Providing pictures and videos of the animal can greatly assist us in making an accurate assessment.
My dog has an amputation; can it be fit for a prosthetic limb?
Yes, Pawionic specializes in creating custom-fit prosthetics for amputee pets, including dogs. We use advanced 3D scanning and printing technology to ensure a perfect fit that complements your dog’s unique body structure and needs. Please reach out to us, and we can start the process of designing a prosthetic that will help your dog regain mobility and improve quality of life.
Also, there are a few conditions but in most cases, a prosthetic can be curated.
My dog is a puppy; can it be fit for a prosthetic limb?
We can accommodate puppies and young dogs as a certain amount of space for growth can be incorporated into the design. Depending on the age and breed of the dog anywhere from 1 to 4 progressively sized prostheses may need to be fabricated. A plan can be developed between you, your vet and us to determine at which stage you will wish to begin the process.
Is it necessary for me to bring my pet in person for a 3D scan or casting?
No, it’s not necessary for you to bring your pet in for a 3D scan or casting. We provide a convenient DIY casting kit that you can use at home. The process is straightforward and pain-free, similar to casting for human bone injuries but simpler. We’ll send you the kit with detailed step-by-step instructions, allowing you to create the mold in a comfortable environment for your pet, minimizing any distress. Just send the mold back to us once it’s complete.
Can I get a price quote?
In order to quote a specific cost, we need to know the size (approximate weight) of your dog and what injury or physical debility with which your dog has been diagnosed. The physical condition will determine the style of the brace. You can mail this information for a quote or just fill out the form on the website and our team will connect with you in 3 to 5 business days.
How long will it take to get a brace made?
The fabrication process typically takes 7 to 10 business days, or about two weeks, and is handled on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that shipping time is additional and varies based on the chosen service and your location. We understand that many of our clients require prompt support due to medical needs, and we are committed to delivering our services as swiftly as possible.
I am not in UK, are there special instructions for shipping the cast to you?
When shipping from your country, whether using a national postal service or a courier, you will need to complete a customs declaration. The required information typically includes the product description, its value, and the country of manufacture, as well as details about the shipper (exporter) and the recipient (importer).
For shipments from the United Kingdom, we offer a shipping advice sheet available upon request from our office. For other destinations, we can provide specific guidance as needed.
Please note that any cross-border charges such as duties, taxes, and handling fees are the responsibility of the client. Accurately completing the customs paperwork can help avoid these extra charges. If you need assistance with the customs declarations, please contact our office.
Depending on the situation, the cast may be shipped to us either by the veterinarian or by the client.
How do I pay for my order?
You can directly pay to our bank account and for our international clients we will share our international bank details.
What is your warranty?
Our products come with a 6-month guarantee against defects in materials or design. For details on repairs, please see the information provided below. The warranty becomes void if the brace is altered or modified in any manner without the consent of Pawionic. This warranty does not extend to normal wear and tear of replaceable parts like liners and straps, nor does it cover damage caused by the canine.
What kind of life expectancy, refurbishments or repairs can I expect?
The life expectancy of the product will depend on many factors, but we have found that our products can last the lifetime of the pet. Our products are fabricated to be long-wearing, robust and refurbishable.
Some factors which affect the products are: the amount of time worn (constantly vs. occasionally); activity level of the pet; environment in which the brace is worn; upkeep and cleaning by the pet owner; damage by the pet.
